Advancing AI in Education: The UD Working Group’s Collaborative Efforts
University of Delaware’s Working Group on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Education is making waves with its innovative approach to integrating AI into teaching and learning. Led by a dynamic team of faculty and staff, the group is at the forefront of cutting-edge explorations of AI in education.
One key member of the team is Joshua Wilson, an associate professor in the College of Education and Human Development, whose background in special education informs his research on how automated essay evaluation systems and machine learning can support student learning. Wilson and his colleagues are using AI to develop a new instructional approach for large foundational courses, aiming to keep students engaged and connected to the material.
The University of Delaware’s Library, Museums and Press has also joined the AI movement with an AI literacy tutorial for students and faculty, sparking conversations about the responsible use of AI. Additionally, UD’s Academic Technology Services is working on a project called UD Study AiDE, which will provide students with tools to create their own study materials using AI technology.
The Working Group has established a seminar series titled “Navigating the Future of AI and Teaching and Learning in Higher Education,” aimed at helping faculty and staff understand the implications of AI for education. The group is also collaborating with UD’s Data Science Institute and the Artificial Intelligence Center of Excellence to further AI research and graduate study opportunities.
With a focus on promoting AI literacy and responsible AI use, the Working Group is paving the way for the future of education at the University of Delaware. To learn more about their work and access resources, visit the AI for Teaching and Learning Working Group’s website.
