One student, Tony, shared his experience using ChatGPT for an English class where he found the assigned book boring and the instructions unclear. However, for a music class, Tony preferred to write his own paper as he enjoyed the topic and wanted to express his own thoughts.

On the other hand, student Eider Martinez expressed concerns about the reliance on AI, fearing that it could diminish creativity and personal growth. He emphasized the importance of independent work and learning from one’s mistakes without the aid of AI tools.

Rohan Desai, a counseling department chair at Pasadena City College, highlighted the potential benefits of AI in helping first-generation students navigate the college application process and career decisions. He sees AI as a valuable resource for providing guidance and information to students outside of regular business hours.

In contrast, Michelle Priest, an instructor at East Los Angeles College, raised concerns about students using AI to complete lab assignments, potentially leading to a lack of essential skills needed for professions like nursing and radiology. She emphasized the importance of students doing their own work to ensure they are adequately prepared for their future careers.

Lastly, Elizabeth Ortega, a sociology professor at East Los Angeles College, addressed the issue of students using AI-generated content in their assignments.
