AWS Research Reveals Impact of AI Skills on Indian Workforce: Salary Hikes of Over 54% and Career Growth

In a groundbreaking study released by Amazon Web Services (AWS), it has been revealed that workers in India equipped with AI skills could see their salaries increase by over 54%. The research, titled “Accelerating AI Skills: Preparing the Asia-Pacific Workforce for Jobs of the Future,” highlights the transformative impact of AI adoption on the Indian workforce.

The study indicates that employees in the IT sector are expected to experience the highest pay increases, with a staggering 65% surge, followed closely by those in research and development at 62%. This demonstrates the pivotal role of AI proficiency in driving financial rewards for Indian workers.

Beyond monetary gains, AI skills could also unlock a myriad of career advancement opportunities for workers in India. An overwhelming 97% of surveyed employees anticipate positive impacts on their careers as a result of AI skills acquisition, including enhanced job efficiency and accelerated career progression. Additionally, a significant 95% of workers express keen interest in developing AI skills to propel their careers forward.

Employers in India are also anticipating significant productivity gains from AI adoption in the workplace. Survey results indicate that organisations expect productivity to surge by a remarkable 68% as AI technology automates repetitive tasks, fosters skill development, and enhances workflow efficiency. Workers believe AI could elevate their efficiency by as much as 66%, heralding a new era of workplace optimization driven by AI innovation.

The research paints a picture of India’s corporate landscape transitioning into AI-driven entities, with an overwhelming 99% of surveyed employers envisioning their organizations embracing AI-driven operations by 2028. Various departments are set to reap huge benefits from AI integration, with finance departments expected to be the primary beneficiaries.

Despite the promising outlook, the research also highlights the pressing need to bridge the AI skills gap in India. While hiring AI-skilled talent ranks as a top priority for 96% of employers, a staggering 79% struggle to find the requisite talent. There is also a significant awareness gap regarding AI workforce training programs, with 91% of employers expressing uncertainty in this regard.

Addressing these challenges requires collaborative efforts from governments, industries, and educators to facilitate AI skills training programs and guide workers in aligning their skillsets with emerging job roles. AWS is at the forefront of driving AI skill development initiatives in India, with initiatives like the ‘AI Ready’ program offering free AI and generative AI training courses to empower individuals with the skills needed to thrive in an AI-dominated future.
