Artificial Intelligence Reshaping Learning Experiences in Education Landscape
Artificial intelligence (AI) is revolutionizing the educational landscape in India, with universities and online platforms witnessing a surge in demand for AI skills. As the country ranks first in AI skill penetration, the focus is on up-skilling individuals across career stages to cater to the evolving skill requirements.
According to industry reports, India’s GDP could see a significant boost of USD 450-500 billion by 2025 through data and AI integration. Companies like upGrad and Coursera are witnessing a rapid increase in enrolments for AI courses, reflecting the growing interest in developing specialized skills in this field.
Mayank Kumar, co-founder and MD of upGrad, highlighted the high demand for AI skills across all career levels, with even freshers showing interest in developing basic AI skills. Raghav Gupta, MD of Coursera, emphasized the surging demand for GenAI content, indicating the potential of this technology to reshape industries and revolutionize education.
The National Program on AI, established by NITI Aayog, aims to guide research and development in emerging technologies, with a focus on implementing AI in key sectors like Healthcare, Agriculture, Education, Smart Cities, and Infrastructure. The program also addresses ethical, privacy, and security concerns related to AI integration.
Universities like the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi are introducing AI courses for undergraduate students, while management institutes and art colleges are also incorporating AI specializations. Assistant Professor Vinit Utpal highlighted the widespread adoption of AI beyond tech-driven industries, with administrative officers and media professionals leveraging AI for various tasks.
As the workplace evolves, the skill requirements are also changing, with a growing emphasis on the ability to utilize Generative AI for decision-making. Amit Jain, Assistant Professor at SP Jain Institute of Management & Research, emphasized the importance of staying updated with the latest technological advancements to meet the demands of the evolving job market.
